The Family Service Center of Galveston County,
Texas
The Clients
FSC serves people from the youngest to the
oldest without limitation. Most of the agency's
clients are families and youth who are struggling
with a variety of adjustment issues and
crises. During the most recent quarter,
the agency served 481 clients or roughly
1,924 for the 2005 calendar year.
Referral
Sources
Often a person calls or comes into the agency
for assistance without a referral. Sometimes
they are encouraged to come by the police
or judges who wish to find an alternative
for persons not requiring adjudication.
The agency sees youth from Seaborne Youth
Corp, the Resource and Crisis Center, the
Advocacy Center for Children, the Juvenile
Justice Center, The Children's Center, area
physicians, clergy, and school personnel.
In addition, FSC serves as an employee assistance
program for several area business and insurance
networks.
The

Moving
Forward
Family
Service Center strives to be a center of excellence
in achieving its mission of strengthening
families and the community, which shapes the
opportunities and limitations that families
face. Towards this end, the Council on Accreditation
will accredit the Center in 2006, meeting
all standards that they promote.
The
Center operates with a highly qualified staff
of mental health professionals designed to
help the cross-section of our community with
a wide range of concerns. The agency seeks
to remain accessible, affordable, and available
to all persons, wealthy or poor.
The
Center is working to add supportive services
that will better prevent the advent of family
problems, conflict, delinquency, and abuse.
This innovative initiative is designed to
build the skills of youth and families for
goal achievement, problem solving, team building,
self-help and mutual aid. The Center seeks
to have a balance of treatment programs and
prevention activities.
Finally,
Family Service Center is working towards a
more stable financial base. The nonprofit
world is often uncertain, but excellence in
planning and development requires a degree
of financial certainty and ability to invest
in innovations. Towards this end, the Center
seeks to build a reserve fund to support future
development.
