Prevention

The comprehensive services of Family Service Center’s Prevention Program aim to increase prevention and counseling services for youth and their families, encourage community collaboration and enhance youth & family support across Galveston Island. The Prevention program provides prevention, counseling and other related services to youth on Galveston Island attending a school in the Galveston Independent School District to support their mental health needs and aid them in graduating high school and attending college. The Prevention program began in the fall of 2012 in response to an identified need by local school administrators, teachers, mental health professionals and social service workers for on-going prevention services, counseling, support and resources for all youth, especially those at-risk of low school attainment because of mental health related issues. Prevention serves school aged youth pre-high school graduation, including parents/guardians and siblings of GISD students. FSC’s Prevention program accepts self-referrals, school-referrals as well as referrals from other entities.
