Together We Can Accomplish More

Family Service Center and St. Vincent’s – Together We Can Accomplish More
By Melanie Reddick, MA, LPC, LMFT; Lead Therapist, St. Vincent’s & Senior Therapist, I&F

St Vincent’s Hope Clinic offers a range of services to address the needs of the most vulnerable adults of Galveston County.  Family Service Center has been working cooperatively with St. Vincent’s for almost a year and a half, offering counseling to patients that come into their clinics. St. Vincent’s services include a day clinic staffed by nurse practitioners that addresses general medical needs as well as student-run medical clinics in the evenings that encompass General Medicine, Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Psychiatry, Neurology and Physical Therapy. St. Vincent’s also has an Eye Clinic to address patient needs. For Family Service Center staff, it’s been a rewarding experience working with medical professionals and coordinating services that address the overall physical and emotional well being of the patients served.

Family Service Center’s counseling team provides 40 hours of counseling services each week at St. Vincent’s Hope Clinic. Our team includes myself, Melanie Reddick, a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist, Randy Kimmey, a licensed clinical social worker, and our clinical supervisor, Julie Purser, a clinical psychologist. We work collaboratively to make sure that we are addressing the needs of our clients in a respectful, professional manner and put the health and wellbeing of our clients at the forefront.

When I look back at my work at St. Vincent’s over the past year, three outstanding factors give me great pleasure. One is the professionalism of the staff and their genuine care for our patients. I have heard over and over from patients that the caring nature of the staff and counselors is what sets this clinic apart from others. Another is the gratitude the patients have for the availability of these services in their community, many of whom would not receive the care they needed if not for St. Vincent’s and Family Service Center. Thirdly, it is most gratifying to see patients invest in their treatment and work to get better.

The partnership between St. Vincent’s and Family Service Center serves as a model for how the “whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. Independently each agency can only do so much. But together, we can provide an array of services that truly benefit and address the needs of our clients, holistically.

As we continue this partnership between St. Vincent’s and Family Service Center, we are excited to see how Galveston organizations working together can not only benefit both agencies, but more importantly, can benefit the many clients in need of an integrated system of care. Let’s all keep working together to accomplish more!
