Prevention

The Prevention & Outreach Program addresses the needs of high-risk youth by building a web of support for these youth that includes improved and enhanced parenting, increased self-efficacy and increased community resources.

The prevention programs that FSC utilizes are Strengthening Families and the Storytelling Project. Strengthening Families is a 14-week best-practice program for reducing risk factors, increasing protective factors and building resilience in at-risk youth.

The Storytelling Project helps individuals practice culturally significant oral traditions of storytelling through artistic creativity. This project aims at transforming difficult personal experiences into life lessons and is designed to promote self-esteem, self-efficacy and problem resolution in a safe environment. Utilizing and learning various media, artistic and technological elements, such as movie editing software, recording equipment, photography, music, creative writing and drawings, youth create their own digital story that they can then share with their family, school and community.
